Was your Kia stolen without the key?

Thousands of Kia and Hyundai owners have had cars stolen by thieves who never touched the key. We are collecting cases so that, together, we can hold someone to account.

If your Kia or Hyundai was stolen while your key was safely inside your home, you are not alone, and it almost certainly was not your fault. Thieves are using handheld devices that mimic the car’s key, unlocking and starting it in under a minute. Kia has changed the design of newer cars to stop it. Owners of earlier cars have been told there is no fix, and that they should buy a steering wheel lock. Thieves have answered that with a hacksaw.

Many of us bought these cars, often used from franchised dealers, without being told. Many have been stolen more than once. Insurance premiums have risen, claims have been refused, and some cars are now effectively unusable.

Individually, each of us is one complaint. Together, we are a group that a law firm can represent and that Kia cannot ignore.

What we are doing

  • Collecting details of every case we can find, in one place
  • Building the evidence a group-litigation firm needs before it will take a claim on
  • Making sure press, insurers and Kia see the scale of the problem

What it costs

Nothing. This is a voluntary group run by affected owners. We do not charge, we do not take referral fees, and your details will only be passed to a law firm if you say so.

Know another owner?

The more of us there are, the harder we are to ignore. If you are in an EV6, Ioniq 5 or Kia owners’ group on Facebook, Reddit or a forum, post the link: kiaclaim.org. If you know someone whose car was taken, send it to them.
